Temperature range at high top: 200℃-450℃

Once we talk about the high temperature o ring seals, what come out first are FKM and Silicone O rings. For regular FKM and Silicone, their high temperature resistant is close, over 200℃ in hot air at static state. The biggest difference between them are media resistant performance, extreme high temperature resistant and cost.

About media resistant performance

Common FKM is not good at steam resistant, but Silicone does.

However, at chemical resistant, such as acids and oils, FKM is much better than Silicone does.

With the change of temperature resistance, Silicone will not change a lot, but FKM does. The highest temp resistant is called FFKM, it is also the rubber which has the best at media resistant.

About extreme high temperature resistant performance

The type of FKM which has the highest temperature resistant is FFKM. There is subdivision category can resistant to 350℃, but it can not resistant to steam. The subdivision category which can resistant to steam can reach the high temperature at around 307℃

The extreme high temperature of Silicone is around 450℃, called boron-silicon rubber.

About the cost/price

At the same high temperature resistant level, whatever which level, FKM is always higher than Silicone, especially the highest level. while the raw material of Silicone is hundred US dollars per kilogram, the FKM, exactly is FFKM, raw material is thousands US dollars per kilogram.
