The sealing structure and sealing ring used for the piston rod are important components in the reciprocating motion mechanism. It not only relates to the issue of leakage, but also affects the performance and lifespan of the entire machine equipment. In reciprocating motion, the piston rod mainly bears a certain axial force and reciprocates at a certain speed to perform external work. With the development of science, technology, and industry, the demand for reciprocating motion is becoming increasingly high, especially in high-pressure and high-speed motion situations. The sealing structure and sealing ring for piston rods are particularly important.

Previously, piston rod seals were mostly used with O-ring seals, narrow cross-section Y-shaped seals, and V-shaped seals. These sealing types often result in premature wear of the sealing lip due to dry friction between the piston rod and the sealing element, resulting in high frictional resistance. The commonly used sealing structures and sealing rings have relatively low movement speed, so they are widely used in occasions with low movement speed requirements, such as engineering machinery, metallurgical equipment, and hydraulic equipment in light industry and agricultural machinery.

A combination sealing ring, such as a step seal, consists of two different components: one is a stepped sealing ring (main sealing element) made of polytetrafluoroethylene and bronze packing, and the other is an O-ring (elastic element and secondary sealing effect). The combined sealing ring (step seal) has the characteristics of low friction resistance, no crawling during starting, extremely low leakage, and anti wear. The combination application of sealing rings avoids contact between metals, improves support capacity and bears certain lateral forces, reduces friction, and is suitable for high-pressure and high-speed systems. It has been confirmed through experiments.
