What is Japanese JIS O Rings

A Japanese Industrial Standard for O-Ring diameters is JIS B 2401. Based on their intended use, this standard—often referred to as "Japanese Metrics"—is divided into four series (P, G, S and V). To complete the size reference, the O-Rings in each sector have ascending number codes.

The general specification is expressed as: inner diameter d1 × Line diameter d2, for example: O-ring 25 * 2.2, where 25 represents the inner diameter of the O-ring as 25mm, and 2.2 represents the cross-sectional diameter of the O-ring as 2.2mm

Sealing principle

The O-ring is a bidirectional sealing element. Due to initial compression in the radial or axial direction during installation, the O-ring has its own initial sealing ability. The sealing force generated by system pressure and the initial sealing force combine to form the total sealing force, which increases with the increase of system pressure.
