Rubber O-ring production and processing steps

Dec 15, 2023

Raw material preparation
1. The main raw material of rubber sealing rings is raw rubber, which is collected by workers from rubber trees.
2. Generally, raw rubber is rarely used directly to process sealing rings. In order to improve the performance of rubber, auxiliary materials need to be added. The auxiliary materials are generally various compounding agents.
When preparing raw materials, the ingredients should be selected strictly according to the formula and weighed accurately.
In order to allow the raw rubber and compounding agents to be evenly mixed with each other, the materials need to be properly processed.

Raw rubber often needs to be dried in a drying room at a temperature of 60--70°C, and then cut and broken into small pieces. Compounding agents such as paraffin, stearic acid and rosin should be crushed. The compounding ingredients should be dry and not affected by moisture to avoid agglomeration after mixing and inability to disperse evenly during mixing.

Production and processing steps
1. Design the mold according to the size of the sealing ring. The mold should have a reasonable arrangement. After the mold is made, test the mold first to see if the finished product is consistent with the drawing requirements.
2. The raw materials are vulcanized and molded. During this period, the temperature and molding time of the mold need to be controlled, and the mold closing force and hydraulic pressure must be appropriate. Be careful when opening the mold.
3. There will be some burrs on the edge of the sealing ring taken out after the mold is opened, which need to be removed, especially the burrs on the mold closing line must be cleaned.
4. Use water to clean. Generally, it needs to be cleaned repeatedly to ensure that there are no stains on the surface of the sealing ring.
5. Perform secondary vulcanization. During this period, the temperature and time of vulcanization need to be controlled. It is necessary to pay attention to the different materials of sealing rings. The temperature and time of secondary vulcanization are different.
6. Cool. After high-temperature secondary vulcanization, because the temperature is relatively high, it needs to be cooled before proceeding to the next process. The general cooling time is 1 hour.

Inspection and packaging of finished products
1. Quality control personnel need to conduct quality inspection on the produced sealing rings. The quality inspection includes size, appearance, hardness, tensile strength, compression deformation, etc.
2. Since the sealing ring is a small accessory, it is generally not sold separately. The packaging quantity and specifications vary. It can be 50 pieces in a pack or 100 pieces in a pack. It can be packaged according to the needs of the user, and some will also be packaged according to weight. Package.
It can be known that there are many steps in the production and processing of rubber O-rings, including raw material preparation, mold design, vulcanization and molding processing, secondary vulcanization, cooling, finished product inspection and other steps.
