The low temperature resistance of fluorocarbon rubber is worse than that of natural rubber, which is caused by the increase of rotation energy of molecular chain segment due to the presence of fluorine atoms.

In 1989, the space shuttle Challenger exploded because of the fuel leakage caused by the use of FKM seals which can not resistant to low temperature resistant. When encountering low temperature, the sealing element loses its elasticity, thus losing its sealing ability.

The common FKM O ring low temperature range for maintaining low-temperature elasticity is generally - 20~- 15 ℃. And commonly, the actual use temperature can be 5-10 ℃ lower since when it works, there will be heating.
