VA shaped water seal is the most commonly used V-shaped water seal, which is generally made of NBR 60 A or FKM 65 A of hydrogen butadiene rubber. It is very convenient to install because of its good elasticity and easy stretching. It is an interference fit with the shaft and rotates with the shaft. VA shaped water seal is fixed on the shaft by its own elastic tension, and the sealing lip keeps in contact with the shaft seat surface with a small contact force. Its sealing lip can compensate the eccentricity of the shaft, the concentricity of different shafts between the cavity and the shaft, and the machining error of the shaft, so as to prevent the leakage of internal grease or oil, and prevent the invasion of external dust, dirt, etc.

As the VA ring rotates with the shaft, its body acts like a slip ring due to centrifugal force to prevent dirt from invading the working medium. Different from other oil seals, VA shaped water seals rely on their elastic sealing lips to form radial seals. The sealing lips have good mobility and adaptability. Therefore, compared with other seals, VA shaped water seals require smaller tolerance fit, simple design, and make up for the problem of eccentric rotation shaft.

Therefore, VA ring has the following advantages:

-Pure rubber elastomer materials without metal parts;

-The design work is reduced, and there is no requirement for installation and processing;

-The requirements for machining, surface precision and hardness of the shaft mating surface are canceled, and the shaft surface does not need to be hardened;

-Simple and reliable installation and disassembly;

-The surface contact pressure is small, so the friction force is small, the friction loss and friction heat are small, and the service life is long;

-It has both sealing and dust-proof functions.

Application

Because of its simple structure, convenient use and high working reliability, VA shaped water seal greatly reduces the design workload of grooves and installation. Therefore, VA shaped water seal is widely used in industrial engineering, water treatment devices, rolling machines, machine tools and other fields.

Selection of VA type water seal

The size of VA shaped water seal can often be selected from a group of diameters. If the nominal diameter of the shaft is outside the boundary of two groups of recommended values, the next group of larger VA shaped water seals shall be selected.

Design of mating surfaces

The mating surface shall be obtained by finishing. Ra=0.4-2.5Um is recommended.

The deflection angle of shaft is different from that of other shaft seals. VA shaped water seal can also be sealed under certain deflection, and the allowable deflection angle is recommended to be 1 °.

Installation

VA ring installation does not require design of installation chamfer. The VA shaped water seal is an elastomer, which can be stretched and pushed onto other parts. The VA shaped ring can be stretched by 20% at most, so it is very easy to install.

From the standard, or the catelogs, you can see that the applicable size range of V ring rubber seals are very large, which is totaly different to any other type of seals.
