Diversity classification of rubber sealing ring raw materials

Jul 08, 2025

In industrial manufacturing and daily applications, sealing rings are indispensable basic components and are widely used in many fields such as mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic devices. Different working conditions have different performance requirements for sealing rings, so the materials and shapes of sealing rings on the market are also varied, such as: mechanical sealing rings, hydraulic sealing rings, CR sealing rings, rubber sealing rings, etc.

So, facing many types of sealing rings, how can we judge the quality and applicability of the materials used?

Usually, what we call natural rubber refers to the natural latex collected from rubber trees, which is made into a solid by coagulation, drying and other processing procedures. Natural rubber has high elasticity at room temperature, is slightly plastic, has very good mechanical strength, has low hysteresis loss, and generates low heat when deformed repeatedly, so its flexibility is also very good, and because it is polar rubber, it has excellent electrical insulation performance.

Varieties of raw materials for rubber sealing rings

1. According to the appearance and shape of rubber

Rubber can be divided into four categories: solid rubber (also known as dry rubber), emulsion rubber (referred to as latex), liquid rubber and powder rubber. Good elasticity, slightly plastic, easy to shape; high mechanical strength, good tear resistance, suitable for dynamic sealing;

2. According to the origin and method of raw materials

Natural rubber (NR): excellent elasticity, high strength, but poor oil resistance; synthetic rubber: a wide variety, more refined division of labor according to performance. Rubber can be divided into two categories: natural rubber and synthetic rubber. Among them, the consumption of natural rubber accounts for 1/3, and the consumption of synthetic rubber accounts for 2/3.

3. According to the physical shape of rubber

Rubber can be divided into hard rubber and soft rubber, raw rubber and mixed rubber, etc. Soft rubber/hard rubber: determines its compression deformation performance; raw rubber/mixed rubber: raw rubber needs to be mixed with other materials before it can be used.

4. According to the function and use of rubber

Except natural rubber, synthetic rubber can be divided into general synthetic rubber, semi-general synthetic rubber, synthetic rubber and special synthetic rubber.

5. According to the industrial use of rubber, it can be divided into ordinary rubber, heat-resistant rubber, oil-resistant rubber, weather-resistant rubber, special chemical medium-resistant rubber, etc.
